Offshore New York alternative energy project proposed

Grays Harbor Ocean Energy Company submitted a preliminary permit application to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for a “New York Ocean Energy Project.”

While the focus of the project is wave energy, the technology, which involves an oil rig-style platform, conceivably could support offshore wind power generation as well.  The New York project is one of several in various states that the company proposes.

Grays Harbor indicates that

The Company has identified the only site offshore New York that is at least ten miles from shore and also not in an established shipping lane into busy New York harbor. This is near the Hamptons on eastern Long Island. The depth and wind are ideal for our technology solution.

Grays Harbor’s FERC application is here. Gray Harbor’s apology for not letting the state know about its plans is here.
