Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro aims to place seven 1.5 MW turbines on the site of the Fresh Kills landfill.
If we are serious about reducing pollution, promoting environmentally-friendly power, and reducing our dependence on foreign oil, which funds terrorism throughout the world, then we should support wind energy. We can start right here on Staten Island. Fresh Kills, one of the country’s worst ecological nightmares, is poised to become New York City’s first wind farm. It is the only site in the City that has been tested and proven suitable for a wind farm.
The wind farm proposal is to be discussed at a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 4 at Public School 58, 77 Marsh Avenue, behind the Staten Island Mall.
