According to reports in the Albany Times Union, [http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=688686&category=BUSINESS&BCCode=&newsdate=5/15/2008] state assemblyman Kevin Cahill (D-Kingston), chair of the Assembly’s Energy Committee, stated at the annual meeting of the Independent Power Producers of New York that the state energy board, created by executive order of Gov. David Paterson, should be expanded to include members appointed by the legislature and enhanced through legislation.
A bill sponsored by minority member Thomas O’Mara, A 5542, which would “reauthorize Article X of the Public Service Law for ten years with amendments that improve the process for the siting of major electric generating facilities; and re-establish a state energy planning board to create a state energy plan,” has been held for consideration in the Energy Committee since April 8, 2008.
